Housing is available June 22 through September 5, 2008. Residence halls are within a 10 to 15 minute walk of most meeting areas on campus. The majority of sleeping rooms have two twin-size beds and are offered as double or single occupancy. All rooms are furnished with bed linen, towels, soap, drinking cups, and a small fan. Residence halls are not air-conditioned. Bed linens are changed weekly and towels exchanged daily. Ethernet access is included in all sleeping rooms. Guests share gender-specific community bath facilities conveniently located on or near each floor. A limited number of single or double rooms with private bathrooms are also available upon request. Attractive lounges, patios, gathering areas, and laundry facilities are available in each building.
Housing and meal service are offered exclusively as a package plan based on a pre-determined number of nights and meals. The short-term housing rates (less than 14 nights) for 2008 are $34.25 per person, per night double-occupancy, and $54.75 per night single-occupancy. The youth (high school or younger) or long-term rates (14 days or more) for 2008 are $26.50 per person, per night double-occupancy, and $53.50 per night single-occupancy.
For meal service, guests are issued a conference debit card programmed with a pre-arranged meal plan amount. The estimated food and beverage cost ranges from $26 - $30 per person per day. This amount should be adequate to provide three meals per day plus a light snack. Meals must be scheduled in advance. There is no credit for shorter stays or unused meal allotments.
Early arrival and late departure days may be arranged in addition to the package dates at an additional charge. No meal plan is included in early arrival or late departure pricing.
The State of Washington sales tax is currently 9.5% on food items and 9% on non-food items. There is no sales tax on sleeping rooms.
The University of Washington is only a 15 minute drive from downtown Seattle, and easily accessible by city bus. The Seattle/Tacoma International Airport is approximately 35 minutes away. Shuttle Express offers door-to-door van service from the airport to the residence halls, as do all taxi and town car services.
The University is a park-like campus near the University Village shopping center, Ravenna Park, and the “Ave” (an historic street with many restaurants and shops), all within walking distance.
Few cities can match the combination of cultural and recreational activities that abound in Seattle. The city is filled with theaters and galleries and offers a wide variety of shopping and dining opportunities. The Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau is an excellent resource for information on Seattle activities.
